Leonardo da Vinci's Adoration of the Magi has long been enigmatic. By focusing on the riders combat motif on the right corner of the painting, and its long established connection to Leonardo's sketches of a rider combating a dragon, I unfold an interpretation layer for this painting concerning the issue of Knowledge and knowledge perspective.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE IMAGE OF THE DRAGON
Many wonder how and why dragons appeared in ancient art and culture. In ancient antiquity the dragon and the serpent were one and the same. In this lecture I examine artworks from ancient Greco-Roman and Egyptian art and unfold the meaning of the sacred symbolism of the dragon that sprang from serpent's biology, and the function of the dragon-slayer topos.

רבים תוהים מאין הופיעו הדרקונים ומה הייתה משמעותם בעת העתיקה. אך עבור מי שחיו בעת העתיקה התשובה הייתה ברורה: הדרקון והנחש אחד הם. בהרצאה נבחן יצירות אמנות מהעת העתיקה המציגות דרקונים, בעיקר מיוון ומרומא, ונפענח את הקשרים בין סימבוליקת הדרקונים והקדושה שיוחסה להם לתכונות הנחש. בנוסף נבחן מה עומד בבסיסו של טופוס שוחט הדרקון.
WOMEN AND DRAGONS - FROM ANTIQUITY TO GAME OF TRONES
Daenerys Targaryen, a characters in the famous TV fantastic series 'Game of Thrones', is a reception from ancient Greco-Roman art.
In my investigation of the 'Women and the Dragon' motif, I investigated images from ancient Egyptian-Greco-Roman and Western European Early modern art, and found that the image's meaning is the issue of powerful women that challenge patriarchal societies.
I investigate why the union between a woman and a dragon has such powerful impact, which makes her image magnetic to viewers world-wide.

מוטיב האישה והדרקון נוכח באמנות מהעת העתיקה (יוון, רומא ומצרים), דרך הרנסנס האיטלקי ועד לאמנות פנטזיה בת זמננו. איך משקפת אותו דמותה של דאינריז טארגאריין מ"משחקי הכס"? כאשר מופיע דאינרז חובקת בדרקונים קטנטנים הצופים והקהל בסצנה נזרקים מייד לסכימה של כח ושלטון השוברים את המסגרת הפטריארכלית בה היא מתקיימת. קיים פער בין הדימוי שבסדרה לבין התיאור הספרותי המתחבר אל דימויים ימי-ביניימים של קליאופטרה. יתרה מזאת, הסכמה של "האישה והדרקון" התגלתה במחקרי כסכמה בינארית המסוגלת להכיל ניגודים של קדושה לעומת טומאה. ניגודים אלה ואחרים הם אופייניים בדימויי נשים ודרקונים באומנות פנטסיה המתארים אירוטיקה וחושניות יחד עם סכמות קדושה והערצה וסימני אזהרה.
